Do you know the incredible history that surounds the home on the hill that was built for Theodore Wirth? He was recruited from NYC after working on Central Park to come and develop the Mpls Park & Rec System. It was and still is the first of its kind in a major city. There is an organization The Minneapolis Parks Legacy Society that has been working diligently to restore the home into an educational museum. Ted Wirth the grandson of Theodore and Joan Berthiaume, a Linden Hills resident have been tireless in their efforts. The house was just listed on the National Historic Register, the next step is to have access to the house on a regular basis in order to establish the museum. This is all done with donations no tax dollars or public money!!! There is currently a tenant who had promised to provide access but has rescended that offer numerous times. He is part of a state park association, not a Mpls Park employee. He pays little rent and is uncooperative regarding access to the neighborhood park events as was promised initially and seems to disregard the history and efforts of the Legacy Society. WE NEED MPLS RESIDENTS TO CALL Mpls. Park Board Commissioner TUES & WED. to inquire about the access issue. For more info email me with questions. Thanks for your suport!
