The Southeast Valley Tobacco Use Prevention Project will promote healthier lifestyles by increasing awareness of the negative effects of tobacco and coordinating community efforts and activities.
In 1994, Arizona voters approved the Tobacco Tax and Health Care Act, which increased the sales tax on tobacco products. Twenty-three percent of the revenues from this tax are set aside for tobacco prevention and education.
Maricopa County Department of Public Health Services Tobacco Use Prevention Program funds eight Local Projects geographically arranged throughout Maricopa County. Southeast Valley Tobacco Use Prevention Project, SEVTUPP, is one of the eight Local Projects
SEVTUPP membership includes interested citizens, schools, youth serving agencies, health care providers and organizations. The Coalition is responsible for the development and evaluation of school-based and community-based programs designed to reduce the number of youth who make the decision to start smoking.
If you live in the Chandler, Gilbert, Higley, Queen Creek and Sun Lakes areas, and are interested in quitting the use of tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, pipe or spit tobacco), we can help. Our services are available to the public, and completely FREE! Please call or email us today for more information.
