Southface Community Association

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Nov 22, 1999

For those of you who didn?’t attend our Annual Meeting, here
is a synopsis of the evening. Our guests, Jim Null, our
Councilman; Gary Herbst, the school traffic engineer; and Darren Abbink, from the Police dept; all addressed various options to improve the safety along Vindicator. They included installing yellow warning lights on Vindicator at either side of the school and changing the light at Owl
Ridge to red randomly during school hours. Bill Baier, a
resident on Last Light Court, suggested that the lights at Rockrimmon and Centennial by synchronized to go red together, thus allowing traffic from Southface to more easily and safely pull out onto Vindicator. Jim Null was very supportive of the latter two ideas and indicated he would help us to pursue their implementation.

Reports from the board members included Mike Spratte?’s
treasurer?’s report. We continue to work within our budget. Roger McFarland discussed his accomplishments at resolving drainage problems between neighbors, approving landscaping and architectual plans. Leslie Merrill, our secretary, has implemented changes in our record keeping to keep us better organized. Franklin Clay, our external liaision, has successfully communicated with city staffers to have pot holes repaired and will help to see that our streets are safe throughout the winter. Joe Pelka, our public safety director, arranged for the program at the annual meeting, participated in planning and designing the fire station
at Vindicator and Centennial, and worked closely with the
police department to help curb the speeders along Vindicator. Margaret Kinney, our newsletter editor, has produced our newsletters with skill and efficiency. Many thanks to the dedication of the board members for anther successful year in Southface.

For my part, we have improved the path between Anasazi and
Allegheny both in appearance and in preventing erosion. Because of our active participation on various committees, Southface is recognized by city officials and included in many discussions regarding change in the city.

Elections were held and the following residents will be
serving on the board for 2000: Mike Spratte, Franklin Clay, Margaret Kinney, Tyrone Johnson, Bill Baier and myself.

As we begin to organize for the new year, Please feel free
to contact us if you have any suggestions, or would like to participate in any way.

Again, thank you all for a great year.
