Bellemeade Road Speed Humps

Posted in: Bellemeade - Bellemeade

Your right to free speech is in tact but polite civil quires go a long way with me.

The gentleman who requested the Metro Department of Public Works speed hump regulations now has a paper copy that I delivered to his home yesterday.

Two years ago I became mayor when Mayor Pontrich resigned and the commission selected me to fill out his remaining two year term. That happened in the middle of the long process  for installing the speed humps. Vicky did indeed request 6 speed humps and the commissioners after studying the request decided to install the four we have. My first meeting as mayor they voted to do that. After metro approved money for them I worked with public works on placement of the humps but it was really their choice where they would go. Once they were in Public works informed me that due to the length of the street and configuration of the intersections that there would me no more speed humps on Chadwick. The two short sections are less than the 1200 foot requirement.

Ah ha!  Larry, may I call you Larry?  That sounds a tad more polite.  You have been saying that Metro decided that North Chadwick should have four speed humps, right?  Right.  BUT, I found where you contradicted yourself in a recent post.  I underlined the part where you said the City Commission decided to install four.  So, did or did not the Commission look at the cost and put in too few? Don't answer that; just think about it.

Our City Commission is made up of some very nice people to include Mr Groh.  They do a tremendous job everything considered; however, they dropped the ball on the North Chadwick speed hump installation.  It is time to stop pointing fingers, cease yelling at each other, quit trying to explain away the obvious, and work to remedy the problem.  Do I have to yell again and spell that out?

And, oh by the way, I apologize for incorrectly spelling speed and Southampton in a previous post.  I can't believe I got so immersed in this situation that I spent a large part of the afternoon investigating the facts.  Surely did get a ton of exercise, legs are kinda sore this morning.

And, in the spirit of the Season, I chose to NOT make a derogatory comment about what you said in the first paragraph above.  ........Peace on Earth and Good Will to Men (women too, all women reba).

The person on Bellemeade road did know about the proposed speed humps long before the vote was taken. He refused to sign the petition but did not come to a commission meeting to speak against them.

The placement was done according to metro guideline and one happens to be in front of his house. He does not like it. It is there because of the unique configuration of the street.

Is Bellemeade Road a Metro street like Chadwick or is it a Bellemeade street?  Why do none of the streets have center line markings?  I have seen a lot of that snce I came to Kentucky.

Bellemeade Road is a City of Bellemeade street not Metro.

I have no idea why there are not any center line markings.

Thank you very much for your propmpt and courteous reply about Bellemeade Road.

May I ask a question about the comment:  "He did not come to a commission meeting to speak against them." (speedhumps). ?

Did he know when the Commission was going to vote since there was such a long time between the time he refused to sign and the actual vote?  Would an agenda posted in advance have allowed him an opportunity to speak against the humps and possibly have reduced some of the subsequesnt animosity?  Just asking ............... nearly 40 years ago my 7th garde Civics teacher taught me that democracy is predicated on an informed constituency making wise choices.
