Spring Garden Civic Association

MARCH 10, 2002 can make a difference in your life

Mar 01, 2002

March 10th marks another Special Day in the lives of Spring Garden residents. You can be part of a difference that is felt, realized and demonstrated here by participating in our neighborhood that day.

The Miami River Heritage Day event at Point Park celebrates our past and binds our future with unity. Our community invites all the People of Miami to join us in this celebration.
Unity, a recently rekindled American ideal, has long been present in our neighborhood, led by a multicultural civic association that applauds our colorful history and majestic river. Spring Garden?’s pride is in community unity... and you can make it stronger!

The Spring Garden Civic Association established this day as a chance to celebrate the history, serene beauty and the palpable difference unity can make in a neighborhood. Reading this, the biggest difference now will be YOU!

Activities will begin at Spring Garden?’s own Point Park at 11 am and conclude at 4 pm. The theme is ?“From Country to Country Club.?” Here are some of the things you can do:

Have fun!

Picnic in the Park listening to music. Barbecued hot dogs, hamburgers, soft drinks and special treats will be available.

Meet and Greet your neighbors!

See the Spring Garden Booth and exhibits of historic neighborhoods.

Enter your boat or wave at your neighbors during the 3 pm Boat Parade!

Enjoy the newly groomed Park.

Participate in Surprises.

Learn something!

Take a Sunday afternoon ride For $5 a narrated historical tour on an air conditioned bus will describe over twenty early residents of Spring Garden and explain the change in the neighborhood from Country to Country Club.

Take a Sunday afternoon stroll During the bus tour there will be opportunities to get off the bus and use the Spring Garden self-guided tour brochure to study the neighborhood?’s history. Others can purchase the brochure at Point Park ($2) and start the tour there.

Go for a Sunday water outing For another $5 you can take a boat tour on the Majestic Miami River, viewing neighborhoods, learning the history of River properties, and having the possibility of seeing our finned and feathered friends.

Help us with the event!

Prepare the neighborhood for the event by helping clean up part of it. On Saturday Mar. 2 make sure the street around your yard looks extra neat. Then join us at Point Park at 10 am as we go up and down the streets picking up trash.

If you can, help us trim branches in Point Park Friday Mar. 8 from 10 am until 3 pm. Lunch will be provided.

Call 305-324-7527 and volunteer to:
staff the SGCA booth for one hour during the event.
be a tour guide for the bus or boat tour.
be a Ticket Collector and Greeter for the bus and boat tours.
help clean up tables during the event.
help with Park setup 9:30 am, Sunday.
help clean Point Park 4:00 pm Sunday.

Be an SGCA Goodwill Ambassador.

Bring a neighbor who has not participated to the event, or help a Senior Citizen to attend.

Invite a colleague from work to see your Neighborhood.

Bring a relative to the event, or a new and old friend.

Special Assignment?—Show of Unity. Provide us with a family picture (including pets!) in or around your home. Affix the picture to a flag (American or other). These will be displayed on the west side of Point Park during the event. Call 305-545-7101 to register.

Join us!

Our Events Committee is a dynamic group of SGCA volunteers. We are your neighbors, making a difference. The next Marching Forth Meeting of the Events Committee will be Monday March 4, 7 pm at the Broton?’s, 951 NW 10th Court.
