Traffic plan derailled

Please note that we had an advance warning that the traffic plans, although duly voted at the NSNA meeting and consistant with the City traffic engineer's opinion, were in danger due to some opposition of one Snell Island resident. This warning came from a good source.It was Kathleen Ford and she warned us to be digilent.
So I think the "City re-organisation" has to be investigated by the Traffic Committee with suspicion . Is this a attempt to detrail the traffic plans ? Remember the time window of doing the Beach Drive center islands work is prior to the resurfacing of Beach Dr.( due in 2000) When the resurfacing is done the traffic plans will be deemed "forgone".

The problem...

...as with both of these streets, is they are used as short-cuts to downtown. Most of the downtown traffic tries to avoid the lights at 3rd & 5th heading towards 4th St. They race down Beach, turn onto 9th Ave. and speed thru all of those 'stop signs'. By the time they get to 2nd St. or 3rd St., they are speeding to make the green light. If 9th was no longer an access to 4th, this would eliminate some of the Beach Dr. traffic.

I personally have complained to the St. Pete police about speeders on 9th and people running the stop signs---but nothing has been done. I was told by one officer, that they can't spare the personnel to try to catch these people.

Just so you know, these same police did give me a $140 speeding ticket on Beach Dr.--I was cruising at a dizzying pace of 35mph!

Beach Drive & 1st Street

Yea! And 1st Street north of 22nd is derailed. Someone is going to get killed.

Anyone else want to insist that the traffic committee get on this mess right away? Word has it Angelo Rao is a good guy but that something else is going on.

Please post here if you want something done. We ( a group of us who went to a couple meetings) are thinking of calling the Times and having them get to the bottom of this. It stinks.
