Beach Drive traffic plan

re: the problem

The problem is people like you. You
deserved the ticket on Beach. That is an angled street with parking on both sides. 35 is too fast to be safe.

So do you think it is wrong to speed on 9th and run stop signs but OK to speed on Beach?

Suggestion- the white lines used on some streets (too few) at the intersections, seem to slow drivers, especially at night. They are effective
even when no stop sign is present. I
would like to see more of these simple "pay attention" & low cost things done.

For conversational purposes:
does anyone remember when the speed limits all over the counrty were "30mph unless otherwise posted?"

Traffic plan derailed

I think it was during the last 1999 NSNA general meeting that Kathleen Ford was speaking about a lot of subjects that she mentionned that although everything looked ready to go for the traffic plan we should stay vigilent because of some opposition from an influencial resident of Snell Island . She did not elaborate more on the subject. I think a lot of work and constructive discussions were done to get to this point and that it cannot be forfeited , she should investigate why the project file has been removed from the city engineer that worked out the practical aspect of the plan. The board meeting will have to put it on next month general meeting and everybody will have to be informed about the present status. It would be good to have a city representative and we may have to renew our commitment to the plans.

to derailed

The traffic engineer who worked out the plan is no longer with the City: he resigned to take another position where he was born. Angelo Rao, however, has been aware of the plan since its inception, as has George Webb. There should be no confusion on the part of the City as to the final plan and the steps taken (since 1996) to arrive at the final plan.

The agenda for the next general meeting has already been set. This traffic problem will be addressed at the next board meeting and hopefully more specific information on the plan's status should be available. All information, of course will be relayed to the membership at the next meeting.

Because of the time involved in formulating the plan and the very large number of people who participated throughout the process, I do not feel that it should be incumbant upon the neighborhood or association to renew our committment. Our committment is clear and at this point I feel the City should
honor to ITS committment to us.

First Off...

...there is a tremendous difference between someone breaking speed barriers and racing out of control at 35mph----and people speeding at 45, 50mph or faster...which I have seen...through the neighborhood.

I was wrong to speed and PAID my ticket and have slown down---so I really don't need someone like you pointing your finger at me as the root of the entire problem. Get off of your judgemental high horse and contribute something positive.

If people aren't slowing down for posted speeed signs or stopping at traffic signs---you REALLY think a new white line is going to work...give me a break.
