From The President:

Possible Zoning Changes In Near Future
After attending the president's meeting, held by councilman David Carpenter last month, I felt better about the Section Eight housing projects planned for the O'Conner area. This project will be housing for the elderly with a planned elderly recreation center.
Although, there was some disturbing news. Mr. Carpenter informed us that there is a bill before Congress that would change R-4 zoning to be treated the same as R-1. Land designated R-4 is manufactured home residence district, in other words trailer park. Land designated R-1, single-family residence, is what you and I live in here in Stonewood. The manufactured home industry has one of the largest lobbying groups in Washington. The lobbyists are pushing hard to have this bill passed. What this means for you and I is trailer homes can be parked anywhere there is an R-1 zoning. The empty lots around us could quickly fill with trailer parks decreasing our property values. Understand there is a fight to stop this from happening.
Councilman Carpenter states that if this bill passes, the neighborhoods with a strong homeowners association may still have the strength to fight placement of trailer homes around their neighborhood. The associations can use their deed and architectural restrictions, providing the association practices enforcement of these rules in their own neighborhood. As I learn more about the progress of this issue, I will keep you informed. If you have any questions you can contact your city councilman, David Carpenter, at 207-7276.

No Safety Meetings Until Fall
With the cooperation and involvement of the neighbors, Stonewood is a relatively safe place to live. Everything possible is being done to ensure our neighborhood remains safe. Officers have talked with us. Programs have been implemented. There’s not much else to do. Therefore, all safety meetings have been postponed until after the summer vacation. Please remember to keep garage doors closed. Watch your speed throughout our neighborhood and don’t hesitate to report any crime. If it’s an emergency, dial 9-1-1 immediately. If not, you can call the new non-emergency number by dialing 3-1-1. Have a safe and happy summer.

HOA is Spending Money
You asked for it, so we are doing it. We are spending your money! Those HOA dues you pay at the beginning of every year are finally being put to good use. After countless efforts of trying to get it donated, the HOA is buying the vacant corner lot on Champions Hill at Villa Camino. A pavilion and a playscape will be erected on this site. Plans for these projects are being discussed. Rest assured, most of the HOA finances will be put into this project. The rest will be spent on management, association, and legal fees. Special events, such as a fall block party and other fun activites, have been allocated a slim percent of the budget. This is in part because not everyone has paid their dues for 2000.
