Neighborhood Watch

Oct 10, 2001

See it!....Hear it!...Report It!
What is Neighborhood Watch? It is a program involving the joint efforts
of the police and the community designed to enhance neighborhood security, heighten
the community's power of observation and to encourage mutual assistance and concern among neighbors. An effective Neighborhood Watch Program needs residents who are
willing to call the police when a crime or suspicious activity is observed and then inform
their Block Captain or Coordinator so that others will be alerted to any problems or
incidents in the area.
Some things to watch for and report include:
--A stranger entering your neighbor's house when it is unoccupied.
--Anyone walking through the neighborhood looking into autos, backyards, etc.
--Unauthorized person taking mail out of mailboxes.
--Persons going door to door. Always check for proper identification.
--Strange vehicles cruising in the neighborhood.
--Abandoned vehicles, may be stolen.
--Persons loitering around parks or secluded areas in the neighborhood.
--Hearing a scream or other sound of distress.

1.Call the Police
2-Inform your Block Captain or Coordinator
3-Alert your neighbors

Tips for Safety

-Don't display gifts where they maybe seen through a window or doorway.
-Be extra cautious about locking doors and windows when you go out.
-Carry your purse tightly under your arm. Men should carry wallets in their
front pocket.
-Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
-Stay alert to your surroundings and the people around you.
-Don't go shopping alone if you plan to be out late.
-Park in a well lit area. Don't walk to your car alone in the dark. Ask
store security for an escort.
-Lock your car and close the windows. Lock your packages in the trunk.
-Have your key in hand when you return to your car.
-Teach your children to go to a store clerk and ask for help if you become
separated while shopping.
-Tell your children never to go into the parking lot alone.
-Arrange for a neighbor to accept packages and pick up newspapers and mail
if you're not home.
Neighbors working together will keep our neighborhood safe!
