TNCHPS

Mission Statement

To identify, protect, and enhance African American contributions to Tennessee?’s history, culture, and architecture through historic preservation, cultural conservation, and public education.

Our Goals:

1. To promote the preservation and
conservation of the built and social history of
African-Americans
2. To promote the increased participation of
African-Americans in historic preservation
3. To build a community of people interested in
preserving African-American history and culture
4. To serve as an advocate for issues that are
important to the members of TNCHPS
5. To develop public school curriculum for
understanding the importance of preservation

Recent Accomplishments:

?• Hosted the 2006 African American Preservation Alliance Conference and 2nd
Annual Holiday Heritage Gala
?• Published bi-yearly newsletter with periodic
email alerts and legislative updates
?• Held advocacy seminars in Chattanooga, Knoxville, Franklin, and Memphis
?• Published Select Profiles of Memphis and Shelby County Historic African-American
Churches and Congregations
