The North Brooklyn Network of Emergency Food Programs was founded by two Americorps VISTAs, one from THSC and the other from Togetherness with Love. Through the support of the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, the neighborhood network was formed to support the local food pantries and soup kitchens in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick and East New York. The group meets monthly to discuss common issues and solutions that effect serving emergency food efficiently in the community.
Currently the group has 8 core members and have embarked on their first two big projects; the development of "street sheets" and a collaborative grant. the group hopes that by coming together they will be able to better serve the hungry people in the area.
Additionally, the group understands the importance of helping their clients move away from the soup kitchen and food pantry towards self- sufficiency and have pledged to try to expand their services to accomodate this.
