Mission Statement

Maryvale U.N.I.T.E is a Neighborhood Association in Phoenix Arizona which was formed to “provide a vehicle for neighbors to work together in creating a safer, more
pleasant environment to live and raise families.”
Maryvale U.N.I.T.E. was started in July 1992 when 75 people gathered in the front yard of founders Dwight and Kathy Amery to discuss issues concerning the neighborhood.
Maryvale U.N.I.T.E. stands for United Neighbors Improving Their Environment. U.N.I.T.E. has been the recipient of many awards.

U.N.I.T.E. Programs

Bikes for Tykes-Maryvale U.N.I.T.E. neighbors work year round to provide recycled bikes for the youth and adults in the community at no cost to the receiver. U.N.I.T.E. partners with schools to give the bikes out. Partnerships with local businesses raise money (Stuart Andersons Black Angus) to provide parts to fix the bikes and then with other partnerships (Build a Bike) buy the parts at a discount. They also work with Maryvale High School JROTC to fix up bikes during the Christmas holiday and give during the season. Since the inception June 1993 U.N.I.T.E.
has given out over 500 bikes.

John F. Long Program- Partnerships with the City and home developer Mr. Long, Maryvale U.N.I.T.E. has been able to assist homeowners with paint and landscaping material to fix up the exterior of their homes. This program has brought national recognition to the organization. Since the inception in 1994 over 275 homes have been spruced up at no cost to the homeowner except for sweat equity.

Youth Scholarships-With CDBG dollars U.N.I.T.E. has been able to assist over 3000 youth in the community to participate in activities that they otherwise would be unable to afford.

Social Revitalization-Maryvale U.N.I.T.E. each year puts together a parade in which businesses in the community are honored for their outstanding contributions to the
neighborhood. The winner is given the”John F. Long Community Service Award.” The first event was started in 1993 with a Fiesta and has grown to add parades, and golf
tournaments. In 1998 the parade welcomed the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball organization to the community with the grand opening of the newest addition to the Maryvale area, a baseball park. The state of the art facility houses the Milwaukee Brewers during spring training.

Maryvale U.N.I.T.E. will again be heading the way for a parade on Feb. 27, 99 to kick off Spring Training for the Milwaukee Brewers. Contact us for further information.
