West Chatham Improvement Association (WCIA)

The West Chatham Improvement Association (WCIA) represents the West Chatham community. West Chatham Improvement Assoiation (WCIA), is an organization in existence for over 53 years with a membership of over 600 members. The Swedish immigrants first incorporated West Chatham Improvement Association (WCIA) on May 18, 1948. WCIA has continued to function over the years under Africa-American leadership.

WCIA's purpose is to promote the civic involvement of the West Chatham community and all those areas which effect the well-being, advancement, improvement and over-all stability of the community and all of it's residents.

Over the years, it has been necessary for the West Chatham comunity through WCIA to seek the advice and help from offices in city hall including the mayor's office, Springfield, courts, law enforcement offices, and other governmental agencies in order to help reserve the quality of life in our West Chatham community. To date we have been very fortunate to get the support of these agencies and will continue to seek their support when ever necessary.

The continued success and stability of any community is dependent upon the collective concerns of all it's residents. WCIA will continue to be concerned about our West Chatham community. We are a neighborhood watch community organization and invite and encourage all of our residents to join. This will help keep our community a safe and wholesome place to live.

WCIA meets every second Tuesday of the month, at 7:00PM, Communwealthe Community Church, 140 W. 81st Street (LaSalle Street), Chicago, Illinois; with the exception of July and August. Annual dues for WCIA are $5 per adult household. The HOTLINE number for residents of West Chatham is 773-846-8871. Mailing Address: 8153 S. Harvard Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60620-1708.
