Welcome to the West Philadelphia Street Neighborhood Association! We are happy you live in our neighborhood and we want to help you feel at home. WPSNA was formed in February of 2007. Our goals are:
WPSNA meets quarterly during the months of February, May, August and November. A quarterly newsletter is published and distributed to members along with an updated member listing. There are 3 different membership levels available, contact us to join or for more information about WPSNA.
Our neighborhood consists primarily of duplex and row homes with a few single-family homes. Most of the homes were constructed around the turn of the century. One of the pleasing things about our older homes is the charm and character that you will not find in the suburban developments. Many of the homes are owner occupied dwellings with the rest serving as rental units (some 2 and 3 families). Another unique feature that some of our homes have, are backyards that extend the original 220’ from W Philadelphia St to the alleyways. Many of our residents have lovely gardens and a few even have swimming pools. Our neighborhood also has within our borders some of York’s great old industrial buildings that have been renovated and converted and now serve as unique office space as well as newly constructed office space.
Within our area, we do have some businesses. For example, Jim & Nena’s Pizza, The Roosevelt Tavern, the Water Way Raw Bar & Grill and Artistic Foods Catering are located here. We also have some businesses that perform services such as Friend's The Salon, Salvaging Creativity, Miller Brothers Vacuum Cleaner Hospital and Mayer’s Hydraulic Repair. We are blessed to have one church, the Otterbein United Methodist Church. In addition, we are home to City of York's Bureau of Health, Buchart-Horn, the YMCA and the Susquehanna Commerce Center which houses many businesses. Partially within our borders are the buildings that were once part of York’s great industrial past and have been saved through renovation and given new life. The former York Manufacturing Co plant is now the William C Goodrich Business Resource Center and is the home to various business offices.
The City of York's Foundry Plaza / Codorus Boat Basin is located in our neighborhood. This area was recently updated and the number of industrial flowers planted there has been growing each year. You can access the Codorus Creek from here or just sit and reflect over the lovely view.
