Walnut Hill is a turn of the century neighborhood on the near west side of Milwaukee, settled principally between 1880 and 1910, though the first home, the Uhrig Villa at 1727 N. 34th Street at the crest of the hill on Walnut St., was built in 1851. Mostly wood frame duplexes and single bungalows. A railroad corridor crosses the neighborhood SW to N with most of industrial properties along it now classified as "brownfields." The population is majority Afican-American, with a growing community of Hmong, plus Latinos, Native Americans and Whites. It is Our Frontier! We are working together to make it a better place to live.
Walnut Hill Residents Association has been operating for some time. As yet, we are not formally incorporated as a 501c3 but this is under consideration.
