My sisters and I formed this agency so that our religious faith and upbringing could express itself in a secular manner. Like so many other religious non profit agencies (Catholic Charities, Focus Hope) the goal is not to preach nor conversion. Our goal is provide assistance to those who wish to recieve our help.
This Ministry is dedicated to providing help to young women who may have made a mistake or exercised an error in judgement. To treat them with dignity, respect and thoughtfulness. It is not the job of our agency to make moral judgement or to brow beat our residents into a particular theological philosophy. Our job to give them shelter, training, and most of all be non judgmental, give them the love, understanding, and attention they need.
This agency wants to give our residents information on life... life as a single parent. Although agony and adversity may lurk... thes enemies need not prevail. How to deal with finding and keeping a job. What kind of skills that it will take to find a job in the 21st century... and how to find the time to learn those skills.
Not to mention: teething, rashes, incessant crying, ear infections, temper tantrums, conflicting medical reports all the aches and the pains that into making a pregnant teen into a parent. No, we do not have all the answers to give them... Nevertheless. We can tell them what to expect... sometimes when... and how others have handled it before them.
Equally as important, now that they have become a parent, how to merge their lives so that they remember to have sometime for themselves as well. Sometime to enjoy the sometimes-intense world of parenting.... not to allow the stress to develop into a manifestation of anger. To allow the difficult times to be part of the learning experience that encompass parenthood.
Sincerely,
Dennise Perkins, Executive Director
