Two-year-olds, parent/tot (once a week)
Three-year-olds (two days a week)
Four-year-olds (three days a week)

*Licensed by the Michigan Department of Social Services
*GDCNC school admits children of any race, sex, creed, and national origin

WHAT WILL A PARENT GAIN FROM A CO-OP NURSERY?
*An opportunity to meet other parents
*Support during the joyous and trying times of
child rearing.
*Time to observe your child with other young
children in a group setting.
*Access to experts on child development and
nursery programming at adult education
conferences and at nursery meetings.
*A say in making nursery policies and a vote
on decisions such as hiring a teacher.
*A chance to contribute your abilities and
learn and grow with your child.

WHAT WILL MY CHILD GAIN?
*A parent who goes to school with them.
*A teacher who is always there
*Friendly adults who accept them as they are.
*Interaction with other children.
*An atmosphere in which children are
encouraged to be curious and creative

specifically for children

WHAT ABOUT THE TEACHER?
*Teachers in cooperative nurseries are warm, compassionate people who respect young children, relate easily to them, and can provide an environment which will encourage each child to develop in their own way.
*Cooperative teachers are members of their own Teachers Association, which conducts periodic in-service training programs.
*The teacher serves as an advisor and guide to the parents, and has met academic standards set by the Michigan Department of Social Services, and in most cases by the Michigan Department of Education

WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED OF ME AS A CO-OP PARENT?
*Pay a registration fee
*Meet health requirements (usually a yearly physical exam for the child)
*Pay tuition (co-op's are a non-profit and tuition varies according to the expenses of each nursery
*Participate in fundraising
*Attend orientation meetings with other parents
*Attent General meetings of nursery membership usually once a month
*Assist during children's sessions-about twice a month (most groups meet 2-3 half days a week)
*Hold a committee job (such as fundraising, newsletter, scheduling, housekeeping) or be an elected board member (such as President, Treasurer)
*Alternatives for parents who are employed during class time are availabel and vary with each preschool
*Bring a nutritional snack for the class, once a month

AVERAGE CO-OP SESSION
Greet children: children select their own nametags, then are seated on the carpet for teacher timd.
Teacher time: fingerplays and songs are shared and activity areas for the day are intorduced.
Free time: children move to child directed and adult directed activity areas. Examples would be big toys, science, workbench, dressup, art projects, cut/paste, playdough, paint, etc.
Snack: children enjoy nutritious snacks around the table, as well as interaction and socialization.
Teacher time: stories and group activity are done ten to twenty minutes before class ends. Children are dismissed one by one as parents arrive.
