What is the regulation/ordinance/statute that specifies the distance between speed humps?

I have asked in vain several times where the 1200 feet between humps came from.  I have searched Metro Ordinances and KRS and could not find it.

http://www.portlandonline.com/transportation/index.cfm?a=85432&c=35934 talks about the effectiveness of speed humps.  Bottom line is that humps must be closer together to control speeding.

Also: see OAG Opinion 81-90 about speed hump regulation.

The location and interval of the speed humprs that we have now only slows down the sensible people.  If we are really serious about slowing down the speeds, we must put in more humps.  Not putting in more indicates to me that we are only giving lip service to reducing the danger created by speeding drivers.

I can attest to the fact that at 5 pm speeders are a real danger as they enter the Moorgate entrance and blast down the distance between Shelbyville Road and the first speed hump.  If it were not so dangerous, it would be amusing to watch the bumper-to-bumper chain reaction as each one slams on the brakes at the first hump to avoid rear-ending the speeder just inches in front of them.  This problem is magnified by the fact that several young children who reside in that stretch are placed in harm's way.  Consider yourself lucky or blessed that someone has not been injured or killed, Amen?

I am going to check it out over a week-end to see how bad it is then.

Maybe we should cruise Chadwick going the speed limit over and over to slow them down. A few days of that from 5-6 PM may make them change their route.
