Cactus Park West Neighborhood Association (CPWNA) was formed in 1996 by Don Gerard to engage citizens to help build safe and caring communities. Fifteen years later, CPWNA has grown to be a successful neighborhood association which helps to build safe and caring communities, but continues to share, educate, and inform concerned citizens about the neighborhood, schools and community.  CPWNA core members are six board members and more than 40 neighborhood volunteers and representatives from the Cactus Park Precinct, council office, Neighborhood Services, and school bodies.  CPWNA currently holds monthly meetings, produces monthly newsletters and hosts annual community events. Several of the members attend other community meetings such as the Cactus Park Community Alliance, Coffee with a Cop, Breakfast with the council, school site councils, and other local neighborhood alliances to share, educate, and inform them about the neighborhood about surrounding issues and events.
