Our Community was initially known as Fortified Hills, a name stemming from the Civil War. We are in the area of Grove Park off D L Hollowell Pkwy. Grove Park was named from Dr. E. W. Grove, president of the Grove Park Development Company which was developed in the 1920's and 1930's by various developers, but primarily by the Grove Park Development Company. We have heard longtime stories about how our community streets was named. Mr. Grove named the streets for his wife, Gertrude, his daughter Evelyn, and his son, Edwin. Other street names are to believed to have been inspired by his grandchildren: Matilda, Hortense, Emily, Elizabeth, Francis, Eleanor, Florence, Margaret, and Eugenia. Many of the side streets created in the '30s, '40s and '50s are wide, tree-lined avenues with well-tended frame cottages, brick Tudors and ranch homes. Our Neighborhood is bounded by Johnson Road NW on the North, Madrona Street NW on the South, Wood Street and Milton Avenue on the West, Emily Place NW on the east in the Heart of Atlanta, Georgia. We are approximately 5-10 mins from Downtown (ATL) and our neighborhood is known all over the world bka (BANKHEAD) and currently renamed Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy in Honor of Donald Lee Hollowell regarded as one of the preeminent Civil Rights Attorneys in the South who held a long career at the center of historic events. This area has some great history behind it. Our mission is to revitalized the neighborhoods along the D L Hollowell Corridor. WE currently have a lot of vacant HOMEs and COMMERICAL PROPERTIES on the corridor that need restoring and deseparately in need of repair. I believe this area can be GREAT AGAIN! I have lived in this community over 40's years now and it's nothing like the way it was when I moved here. WE NEED EVERYONE's HELP IN SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY IN RESTORATION, IMPROVEMENTS AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION. PLEASE GET INVOLVED IN THIS GREAT ENDEAVOR!!!!
