As long as we have "Painted the Fences" on Alma School ... (we still have Guadalupe to go)... and will be getting new Entrance Signage ... we might as well "go all the way" and see if we can have the City of Mesa remove all the grass on the 2 corners at Alma School and Pecos and 1 corner at Alma School and Pampa. Since the grass grows OVER the sidewalk at least 6 inches and is never trimmed, those corners might just as well be consistent with the rest of the work they did along Alma School and Guadalupe. They put in low profile and low maintenance plants with decomposed granite. It would provide an even nicer "facelife" for our neighborhood and give it a more updated look as well.

I talked with the Dept. of Transp. at the city yesterday about this and told them what we had been doing and that changing from unkept grass to decomposed granite and plants would certainly be "cheaper" for the city in the long-run and most assuredly look nicer for our community.

Mr. Madison told me to write a letter to that effect and that it made sense to him. He knows we have this website and they will be LOOKING for input from all of you. Please put your ideas/input in this discussion.

I ask for help in writing the letter that Mr. Madison wanted from Donna Delpier last night. She PROVIDED it TODAY! It is a GOOD one and I think will carry a lot of weight at the City. So let us hear your thoughts.

gravel vs. grass

If the city goes to gravel/granite, it only has to pay to water the trees and any cacti.

There should be NO expense to us if the city goes to gravel/granite.

If the city is going to keep the grass, then the city has to trim it! We insist, right?

And what about a traffic light at Pampa and Alma School?

It's deadly trying to take a left hand turn from Pecos or Pampa on to Alma School.

I love the idea of lanscaping rocks and low water use plants. This will not only look better but it will save money for the city as well.

Regarding your comment on a stop light at Pampa & Alama School, I also would like to see this accomplished. If you think its scary for experienced drivers to turn left onto Alama School, just wait until you get to teach your kids to do it when they start driving!

Granite/Plants, Grass & Lights

There will be NO expense to us no matter what avenue the city takes. We just need to know what YOU would rather see:

1) remain as it is now (with unsightly grass growing over the concrete and very possibly removing the paint that was applied to our walls once the sprinkler system begins watering ... OR

2) to update our entrances as they have done along the REST of Alma School with decomposed granite and low growing plants.

As far as the light goes, I have ask about a light there also -- and really get nowhere! (I just don't think they know WHAT to do with that situation) They know there is a problem, but as they tell me: there are already 2 lights back to back on Alma School and they can hardly justify another.

My suggestion:
Post a discussion in this area and find just how many people "get involved". If you get SEVERAL, and I suspect you will, the city may take a different view.
