Statistics show that the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood has the highest percentage of home businesses of any section of Portland. It seems appropriate, therefore, for the decade-old Portland Association of Home Businesses to meet monthly at SMILE Station, 8210 SE 13th Avenue, one block south of Tacoma Street--although members come from all areas of the Portland Metro to attend. (Note: SMILE Station is handicapped-accessible, with a ramp entrance on the south side of the building.)
If you are engaged in a home business, or are considering one, the monthly meetings of this nonprofit association may be of interest to you--and if so, you are cordially invited to attend and get acquainted with the organization and the resources it offers.
The meetings are usually on the third Thursday evening of the month, from 6:00 till 9:00, and a buffet dinner is included. In August,a members-only picnic replaces the regular public meeting. Each meeting topic is of interest to home business owners, with a featured speaker or an A.H.B. facilitator. There is also a display area at each meeting, where those attending can display and discuss their home businesses. One meeting a year is purely social--the annual member picnic in August, which replaced the usual third-Thursday monthly meeting in that month. The picnic is for members only, but is provided at no charge, and anyone joining the AHB before the picnic may attend it!
