Willbrooke Subdivision was built on land that formerly belonged to a prominent old Duluth family, the Wilsons. Part of this family still owns the red brick ranch-style home at the entrance to Willbrooke on McClure Bridge Road. The land itself was sold by the Wilsons to an investment firm, who later sold it to a development partnership, Charles Woods and Dan Cowart. These developers put in the infrastructure and then sold the lots to Ryland Homes and Richport Properties, the builders.
