Organization Mission
The Salvation Army, founded in London England in 1865, is a worldwide religious charitable organization dedicated to helping the disadvantaged reach economic self-sufficiency, while providing for basic human needs. The Salvation Army organized in Detroit in 1887 and today services thousands of people annually in sixteen church community centers and a multitude of programs such as substance abuse treatment, emergency shelters, transitional housing, food for the hungry and summer day camps. These church community centers are called Corps and they al offer worship services and recreation activities.
