City of Bellemeade

Coyote sighting in Mooregate section

Posted in: Bellemeade - Bellemeade

I always have my coyote on a leash when I walk him.

Such levity!  Maybe it would be better applied to the serious problems in OUR little city.

When we had the f irst deep snow there were tracks going aroung the neighbors back yard down our driveway and around the front of our house.  The paw print had pads. not claws that were not noticable. They were very large compared to the German Shepard that we were baby sitting that week.  We have also seen a fox.  Enjoy the wild life but be responsible with your pets and remember the leash law.

Ii is so pleasant to observe the creatures.  Much of the transient wildlife was displaced when Oxmoor Toyota expanded and cut down the trees in that large area between the apartments and the car dealerships a few years ago and in the past two years when U of L cleared much of Shelby Campus.  Last fall, I had deer bedding in my railroad lillies and exotic grasses.  I see the red fox often and always wonder where the mate is.  But, I have yet to see any evidence of a coyote in my yard

And you are so right asking folks to be responsible with their pets, even those who do keep them on a leash, but allow them to mess and urinate just anywhere.  Urine kills grass and flowers and I despise that dog doo that I step in mowing my yard.

And as far as the cats, did you see that item on the tv news last week that stated that there were 1.5 MILLION feral cats in Jefferson Country?  Are the ones we see in Bellemeade in that group?  Or, are they Bellemeade residents' cats?  We did have a black and white one roaming around that was left behind by a resident that moved a couple of years ago, but I have not seen it lately.  I have also not seen the huge orange one, ever.

Several years ago the Courier-Journal did an article about the feral cats in Lyndon and how much the population had grown
