City of Bellemeade

Coyote sighting in Mooregate section

Posted in: Bellemeade - Bellemeade

Such levity!  Maybe it would be better applied to the serious problems in OUR little city.

I have started attending the City Council meetings and am active in the block watch program. I was even one of the "vigilante anti-speeders" crew you were sitting in your car watching. What else would you have me do?

This reminds me of one of my favorite movie quotes from Stripes, the movie.

"Lighten up Francis."

To quote from John Wayne, "Pilgrim, you branded the wrong steer."

Hey, I am on the same side you are.  I am appalled at some of the goings on and the type "leadership" that has been displayed lately.  I commend you for your interest and your service.  Do you get regular alerts about criminal activities from block watch?  I don't.  My neighbor said Block Watch has quit working, but you said you are active.  What's the real story?

My comment about levity was not aimed at you or your comment.  It was a take-off on your comment about being on a leash.  Some leaders in some places become so arrogant thinking they have folks on a leash so tightly that hey can put a new coat of paint on something or plant another tree and then avoid the difficult issues like speed control.  I was trying to convey that and at the same time stir the pot because that some leaders have a frivolous attitude toward the speeding problem on YOUR street and other streets.  The lack of serious attention to that problem and to the recent suspicious activity would be somewhat laughable if it were not so serious.   I am tired of the same old carrot being dangled in front of me .........................................   did that plan for increased police protection come at the meeting, or was that still yet another carrot?

I'm sure you understand why I put OUR in upper case .......... some people don't.

The real story is that Block Watch is what people put into it. On my block we have collected as many email addresses as people would let them. The picture of the van went out to those people. If they do not care to give an email address, then their access to information is limited. Their is one lady, that I know of, that does not have email because she does not have a computer. This weekend printed flyers are going to be distributed on this block.

I think you should talk to your block watch captain, or offer to replace them so that block watch really works.

Printed flyers?  Interesting. How did that happen?  You must have a good block captain.   But it looks like people without computers are left to fend for themselves it seems; how can they put anything in it?

What do you mean the pictures of the van went out?  Larry took the picture and posted it on the Bellemeade Home Page, didn't he?  There was absolutely no mention of block watch in his post.

I got a flyer about a crime watch meeting at Lyndon City Hall  last month.  Is that the same as block watch?

What if we had a crime wave after an ice storm or tornado  like we had not long ago?  How would people be alerted?  I think the concept is really good, but I can not see how a system like that can work unless there is a lot of leadership.  I do agree with you that the people have to be willing to cooperate with their neighbors and that does not always work.  I used to have two neighbors that would not speak because of something about parking a boat trailer on the yard or something like that.  Nobody could count on them.

I see Neighborhood Watch signs in Hurstbourne; why don't we have them?  Seems like I read a post asking for volunteers to put up signs several months ago.
